archives} (Arnold) Chiari Malformation

ooooooooh - i liked my last diagnosis better. I had been spending my time researching Cervical Spinal Stenosis and thinking i had it under wraps and I would know what to expect, the procedures that can be done and what exactly it is i was dealing with. On monday i had an appt. with a Neurologist, Dr. TamSing. John and I went.. i was still very nervous to be schooled by a real person, a doctor... not just my google searches and community boards. He ran thru some more tests, went thru my symptoms and then he went thru a few images on the MRI.

He told me what i have is called (Arnold) Chiari Malformation. wait a minute! what about the Stenosis? i dont know what Chiari Malformation is........ and i havent been researching THAT! Same basic principals. It is when you spinal cord has pressure on it, but Chiari is when your brain expends down below your skull bone and it is your brain itself that is putting pressure on your spinal cord. The DR. referred me to a neurosurgeon (dr. Oro) so he could tell me what my next step is. He also ordered another MRI of my spinal cord but thank goodness I learned from the Neurosurgeons office to wait and hear what Dr. Oro says when he reads my first MRI.

Today I gathered all my medical records and the MRI disc and brought them to Dr. Oros office. I filled out about 30 minutes worth of paperwork with Ryan sitting next to me. (she was so so awesome!) and now I wait to hear. The office says that I should hear from them on friday.

Just for some info here are some links below.
this first link, if you scroll down a ways you can see members photos they have posted of their surgeries. (yikes)

and here are some more photos of my big ole brain! (so big it is spilling out onto my spinal cord!)
